EvaDAT's first exhibitor stand 27 days ago

From March 4 to 5, EvaDAT was represented with a stand at the 15th Conference on Structural Analysis and Construction Practice in Hamburg. It couldn't have been a better environment: the conditions created by the team from the Institute of Structural Analysis at Hamburg University of Technology were excellent! Active support at the stand was provided by the DBV's Software for Structural Analysis working group - in particular by its chairman Bert Ziems.

Many thanks to all those who attended and visited the stand - we were very pleased!

The members of the working group and the representative of EvaDAT:

Bert Ziems / FRILO Software GmbH, Casimir Katz / SOFiSTiK AG, Kirsten Stopp / connectINGs GmbH, Roland Sauer / RIB Software GmbH, David Krybus / RIB Software GmbH

Presentation by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Casimir Katz on EvaDAT 1 month ago

In the very well attended mini-symposium "Software-based structural analysis and parametric design" at the 15th Symposium on Structural Analysis and Construction Practice (15. Fachtagung Baustatik-Baupraxis) in Hamburg, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Casimir Katz explained the necessity of validation and presented the findings of the DBV's Software for Structural Analysis working group, which resulted from the comparison of various software solutions with EvaDAT.

Many thanks for the very interesting presentation, which certainly helped to make EvaDAT even better known!

1st lecture further education seminar IK-Bau NRW 2024 1 month ago

Last Monday, the first of the two further education seminars offered this year by IK-Bau NRW "Digital Proofing: Practical Application and Proofing Files NRW / Evaluation of Structural Analysis Software Using Examples from EvaDAT" took place. Dr.-Ing. Kirsten Stopp introduced interested participants to the EvaDAT Internet platform and its background - VDI Guideline 6201. Many thanks to Ingenieurakademie West gGmbH for the opportunity and to the two co-presenters Sebastian Brandt, Gehlen Partnerschaft Beratender Ingenieure mbB with the topic of digital signatures and Jens Seiler ZPP Ingenieure AG with the proofing file NRW for the interesting presentations.

EvaDAT - Quality assurance according to VDI 6201 for software-based structural analysis and design

How can it be ensured that what is numerically calculated with software programs and for which "beautiful colorful pictures" are displayed in the result presentations is actually correct?

On the software production side, this requires clarification of: Does the program calculate correctly? What is behind it, which theories are used? On the side of the software usage one must ask: Is the program suitable for the individual task at all? Is the user using the program correctly? Are the subtleties of the program known?

EvaDAT is the answer!

On the platform EvaDAT neutral evaluation examples based on the guideline "VDI 6201 Software-based structural analysis" are provided, which can be used to check your own results.

The basic idea of EvaDAT is that the evaluation examples are posted via the expert public: via the platform, three independent users with three different software programmes come together, each of which processes an example and, after discussion, possibly revision and evaluation of the results, releases this example, i.e. "qualifies" it. The examples should emphasise one feature in particular (e.g. the shear component of thick components is taken into account) so that differences remain identifiable. In terms of character, everything can be included: from simple FEM benchmarks to discussion-worthy questions from practice. From the student to the proven expert in a field, everyone can extract valuable content and programme-specific information for themselves.

Use the posted evaluation examples for your own quality assurance. A selection of essential advantages that EvaDAT offers you are summarised under About EvaDAT/Why EvaDAT.

EvaDAT - The platform for the implementation of the guideline "VDI 6201 Software-based structural analysis"

In the construction industry, there will be no TÜV-like authority due to the diverse calculation paths; the responsibility, warranty and liability always remain with the software user. Therefore, according to VDI 6201, the user must be given neutral (!) evaluation examples with the help of which he can determine whether he achieves comparable results with his own software. The guideline defines the form and content of the examples and 5 sample examples are given. Further examples are to be collected in a database over time. This database is realised by EvaDAT!

Part 1 Fundamentals, requirements, modeling and Part 2 Verification examples have been published for the guideline.

Research project: Conception and development of a standardized evaluation database for software-based structural analysis according to VDI 6201 for the use of structural analysis and design software in BIM-based process chains

The conceptual design and initial set-up of the database was carried out in a research project within the framework of the "Zukunft Bau" research initiative of the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs at the University of Wuppertal from 2016 to 2019. The project was supported by 18 well-known project partners from the field.

Are you curious?

The use of the EvaDAT platform is free of charge. In order to have unrestricted access to all content, you must be registered and logged in. If you enter your company in your profile, you can also show the outside world that your company is involved in quality assurance in software-based structural analysis according to VDI 6201.

An explanation of the procedure for using existing evaluation examples as well as instructions for setting new evaluation examples can be found at About EvaDAT/How it works.
